Born in Harlem, Kip Omolade began his art training at the Children’s Art Carnival and the Cooper Union Saturday Program. He then interned at Marvel Comics, Novo Arts and the Center for African Art. Kip continued his studies at the Art Students League of New York and went on to earn a BFA at the School of Visual Arts. His paintings have been featured in exhibitions throughout the East Coast.
Kip Omolade’s work explores the relationship between art and celebrity using a combination of realistic oil painting and pop culture iconography. It uses the art system as a star-making machine to explore art’s influence in an era of mass communication, entertainment and celebrity.
