Tameka Jenean Norris also known as Meka-Jean and “mynameisnotshorty” is an American visual and performing artist.
In 2012 and 2013 Norris was listed on Modern Painters Magazine’s international list as one of “100 Artists to Watch”, Dec 2011/ Jan 2012 issue as well as one of “24 Artists to Watch” in the Dec 2012/ Jan 2013 issue and featured in New American Painting Magazine’s Juried Exhibitions In-Print, MFA Annual #99. In 2010, she was featured in a two person show for Prospect New Orleans 1.5 and in 2011, featured in Prospect 2, both curated by renowned curator, Dan Cameron. Norris is a 2009 alumni of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She graduated from UCLA School of Art and Architecture in 2010 majoring in Art and minoring in African American Studies. In 2012 Norris earned her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale School of Art.
Most recently in 2012, Norris was nominated and awarded with the Hermitage Artist Retreat in Sarasota, FL, where the artist will spend six weeks in residency.
