Anthony Lumpkin, local African American artist, was born in an area of Miami where art was nonexistent except for the graffiti on the walls. ! Graffiti, as an element of hip hop as well as other genres of music, however, was a source of inspiration for this Carol City native. Lumpkin was introduced to hip hop and comic books by his older brother. It was not long before he was trying to draw all the comic book covers his brother owned. ! Twenty seven years later, Lumpkin presents his first highly anticipated art show, “Paint, Sweat and Tears”, on March 24, 2012.
